Hi! My name is Ava Elaasar, and I’m a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill with a passion for learning through experience, whether that’s through studying abroad, volunteering, or simply connecting with people from different backgrounds.

During my first semester of college, I had the opportunity to study in Granada, Spain, through the Carolina Global Launch program. Living in southern Spain allowed me to explore a new culture, practice my Spanish, and build strong friendships with other students in the program. One of the highlights of the semester was a weekend trip to Paris, where I experienced the beauty and energy of the city with friends I’ll never forget.
I also had a life-changing experience volunteering in Zanzibar, Africa, with Give Volunteers. For two weeks, I taught English to women in the village of Kairo and helped build a school. The relationships I formed there, and the resilience and enthusiasm of the women I worked with, inspired me deeply and reinforced my belief in the power of education and community support.
Through all of these experiences, I’ve grown more confident, curious, and motivated to make a difference, both locally and globally. This website is a space to share some of those stories and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
I’m majoring in Advertising and Public Relations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I’ve developed a strong foundation in strategic communication, branding, and media storytelling. This program has helped me sharpen my skills in writing, campaign development, and audience engagement across digital and traditional platforms.
